Greetings and Happy Fall! It is time for Department updates. I am sure all of you are aware that we launched the Master of Science in Forensic Psychology in December 2016. In June 2017, we launched three additional MS programs: • Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology • Master of Science in Health Psychology • Master of Science in Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology One amazing fact: we already have 139 students in the new Master of Science programs, with 73 students in the MS in Forensic Psychology, 24 students in the MS in Health Psychology, 23 students in the MS in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and 19 students in the MS in Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology. This is remarkable. I want to thank everyone who is involved in the success of the new MS programs and all other PSY programs. Well, I want to thank everyone. It is with great excitement that I can share that we have hired three new full-time faculty members. Our new distinguished team members are Dr. Pamelyn MacDonald, Dr. Lisa Teeter, and Dr. Maria Rodriguez. Pam's expertise is in Developmental Psychology and she will help us to further build and support the Master of Science in Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology. Lisa's expertise is in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She had a major role in creating the MS in Industrial and Organizational Psychology as an adjunct faculty member. One of the future projects for Industrial and Bettina Shapira, PhD Chair Department of Psychology Organizational Psychology will be the revision of our current doctoral program in I/O Psychology. The revised program will provide students the option to apply their knowledge to real-life settings; meaning the students will have the option to complete an extensive internship as part of their doctoral program. Dr. Maria Rodriguez's expertise is in Health Psychology. She will help us expand and strengthen the MS in Health Psychology. We are proud of the experience and expertise that Pam, Lisa, and Maria are bringing to the Department of Psychology. Our plan for 2018 also includes the launch of a Master of Science in Educational Psychology. Currently, we are in the approval process for this program and greatly looking forward to the launch of our 5th MS degree. I am not sure if everyone is aware of our work on proprietary curriculum projects. The main purpose of the proprietary curriculum projects is to develop meaningful and engaging curriculum content that supports student engagement and learning. The projects are diverse in nature ranging from a lecture on a What is Forensic Psychology, to a lecture on a Work Life Balance, to replacing entire textbooks. We are very excited about these projects, and if you are not currently involved in a project, but are interested in participating or just want additional information, please send me an e-mail at bshapira@ncu.edu. I want to thank you for your great work with your students and for so many, your involvement in curriculum projects. Please know that all of your work is keenly noticed and greatly appreciated.
