46 | Faculty Development | NCU Faculty Handbook The Annual Review Process NCU conducts annual faculty reviews to evaluate teaching effectiveness. The annual review process addresses multiple aspects of faculty performance, including quality of teaching, participation in faculty and professional development activities, adherence to policies (e.g., timeliness in returning work and use of text matching service), and participation in non-teaching responsibilities (e.g. attendance at required faculty meetings, support of curriculum revision, etc.). NCU employs the Quantifying Teacher Quality (QTQ) tool in this process. The QTQ includes rubric-driven feedback provided to each faculty member. Additional performance reviews for faculty members may be conducted at any time if need arises based on student concerns or other evidence of performance issues. • Full-time Faculty Full-time faculty are evaluated on an annual basis aligned with the July 1 effective date. Approximately one month before the effective date, the Human Resources office sends an invitation to complete the self-evaluation to everyone who is due for an evaluation. • Part-time Faculty This process mirrors what it outlined above, with the exception that a notice is sent out to part-time faculty one month prior to the faculty member's review date. Faculty Recognition To support a strong graduate culture, the University regularly recognizes outstanding contributions to student learning. Each year at the Annual Symposium, the University hosts an academic awards ceremony, where outstanding contributors are publicly recognized and celebrated. Faculty Research Support Northcentral University provides a number of initiatives supporting faculty research. These include: • Release time from faculty student loads to work on research projects. • Honoraria for faculty publications and presentations. • Research funding for faculty outside of office hours. • Professional development funds for faculty to attend and present at research conferences. • Grants through the Office of the Provost to help cover research materials and related costs.
