Faculty Load Historically, faculty loads were defined by students taught and course type. Faculty serving as Dissertation chairs carry a load of 35-40 students. Faculty teaching in courses outside the Dissertation sequence carry a load of 55-60 students. The University is committed to expanding faculty roles to transcend this binary distinction from the past. Faculty are encouraged to engage in wider variety of roles, including teaching, service on dissertation committees, curriculum development, scholarship, and service to the University. Overall, faculty workload is detailed in the appointment letter. Specific faculty assignments are directed by Schools Deans to meet School and University needs. Faculty Flex Program Full-time faculty in good standing (e.g., not currently subject to corrective action) may apply for acceptance into the Faculty Flex Program. Faculty accepted into the Flex Program will receive a 20% reduced student load with a corresponding 20% reduction in the faculty member's then-current salary. Flex Program faculty are still considered full-time faculty and as such, are expected to comply with NCU's outside employment policies. Faculty in the Flex Program will be eligible for all benefits available to full-time faculty pursuant to the policies and procedures outlined in the NCU Team Member Handbook. They are also eligible for a full allotment of professional development funds and are eligible to apply for faculty awards, as determined by the annual budget as well as the processes outlined in the Faculty Research Opportunities and Honoria Guidelines 2017. Further details and application materials for the Flex program are included in the Faculty Flex Program Handbook, attached as Appendix C. Faculty Compensation Schedules The payroll period is bi-weekly. Bi-weekly paydays are every other Friday, with pay periods ending on the previous Friday.
