54 | Faculty Employment | NCU Faculty Handbook Faculty Rank Effective July 1, 2017, Northcentral University will align faculty members with the new faculty ranks to determine their appointment period and the availability of professional development funds. Rank for full-time faculty is determined by the length of satisfactory, full-time employment with NCU as well as prior accredited universities. Faculty will be reviewed annually, at the beginning of each academic year (July to June), to determine their rank for the ensuing year. Faculty Rank Length of Recognized Service Appointment Period Annual Professional Development Funds Available Assistant Professor <3 Years 1 Year $1000 Associate Professor 3-5 Years 2 Years $1500 Full Professor >5 Year 3 Years $1800 *NCU counts 1 year for every two worked as a faculty member at a prior accredited university. Faculty can be given rank "credit" for prior FT faculty work at regionally accredited institutions at 50% rate (e.g. 2 years at prior institution is worth 1 year credit at NCU). Outside Employment Policy NCU faculty and team members are prohibited from engaging in outside employment as outlined below without advanced written approval from the NCU Provost and Vice President, Human Resources, before engaging in outside employment activities. Outside employment is defined as: • Any form of compensated employment, contract, self-employment, or business ownership by a full-time NCU faculty/team member where the faculty/team member works more than 25 hours per week or is provided personnel benefits or is in a position described by the outside employer as: full-time or other equivalent terminology or, supervisory in nature, as determined by NCU in its sole discretion or, • After appropriate due diligence, NCU determines (in its sole discretion) the outside employment is potentially detrimental to the NCU faculty/team member's performance at NCU. • Any employment of any manner, contracted or regular employment, full or part-time at another institution, determined by NCU, in its sole discretion, to be a competitor, including but not limited to: Walden University, Capella University, Argosy University, Grand Canyon University, DeVry University, Colorado State University-Global, Colorado State University (all campuses), American Public University, Trident University, Ashford University, University of Phoenix or other for-profit institutions. The definitions set forth in this policy govern key terms, and all interpretation of terms, is at the sole discretion of the University. Compliance with this policy is a condition of employment. Failure to comply with the terms and/or intent of this policy may result in corrective action up to and including termination.
