FACULTYSPOTLIGHT School of Social and Behavioral Sciences DORA FINAMORE, PHD Adjunct Faculty, Department of Psychology After graduating with an undergraduate degree in psychology from Monmouth University, Dora and her husband moved to Aruba with their young daughter, Ashley. They lived in Aruba for five years. After returning to the states, Dora started attending Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida, where she spent half the year living there for her doctoral program, and the other half in Ft. Lauderdale while raising her daughter. After graduation, Dora started her academic career in 2001, teaching a graduate course in psychology, and then went on to develop and teach a graduate course in play therapy at St. Thomas University, in Miami, Florida for the summer of 2005. Dora also became a registered play therapist and was very active both nationally and in the state of Florida. She served two, one-year terms on the task force for ethical assurance for the Association for Play Therapy. She was the editor of the Florida Play Therapy Association Newsletter for many years, and its treasurer for two years. Her clinical training started at a local hospital in the pediatric department working alongside a child-life specialist, and then at a social service agency seeing clients and learning assessment with a licensed psychologist. Dora started teaching at NCU as an adjunct faculty member in 2001 and teaches several graduate courses. Dora has served as chair and committee member for many dissertations. She is a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology- Lifetime Member (Inducted 1982), and is an active member in the Psi Chi student association. Dora is a member in the N.J. Professional Counselor Association. Dora has won teaching, research and service honors, including the 2002 Award for Serving Children and Families. Dora also was recognized by the Jewish Family and Children Services Association- 1999 Leadership Award presented at an annual conference in Orlando, Florida. Dora's research has been published in a wide variety of journals and books and she has been cited for her expertise on parenting and resilience in publications such as the Jewish Journal and the Palm Beach Post. She has been published in Sage for expertise on resilience. Most recently, her research has focused on studying The Effect of a Multifactor Orientation on Student Performance: Organizational Skills, Goal Setting, Orientation to Classroom, and Academic Support with several colleagues. Past publications have been in the Journal of International Education Research.
