Hello Friends! The excitement continues at NCU and within the Department of Marriage and Family Sciences (DMFS) as we move toward wrapping up 2018! Your efforts continue to lead to amazing outcomes for our students and impressive outcomes for the DMFS and SSBS. Your efforts to overcome obstacles (both those of students and within the University), to ensure that our students get the highest quality learning experience, are acknowledged with deep appreciation! Since the last issue of this newsletter, we have had a number of remarkable experiences as a team. • Our community continues to grow as individual DMFS families grow. We celebrate with our colleagues and their families. • We enjoyed a wonderful Faculty Symposium, made particularly enjoyable because of the opportunity to be with and interact with each other. It was great to see many of the DMFS clan in the same physical space (in 3D) and to catch up, to break bread together, make blankets together…etc. There were many interesting presentations and discussions. It was particularly exciting to hear from Dr. Michael Cunningham about National University System (NUS) and how much they are looking forward to having NCU enhance what they offer and assist them in meeting the mission of NUS. The future for NCU is very bright as was apparent at the Symposium. • Commencement was also a wonderful event as we celebrated with our MAMFT and PhDMFT graduates and their families. It was so sweet to share in the sense of accomplishment that our graduates and their loved ones expressed. All of them were so pleased with this outcome and so excited for what is happening now as they move into the future. • During the week of symposium and commencement, we also did some filming for additional authored content, welcome videos from the program directors and department chair, and videos for an initiative on which the retention committee has been collaborating with Sarah Massey. Dr. Postanowicz launched this idea and was instrumental in working with Sarah to film family support videos. These videos will be used to market the mission of NCU and to support new students as they make the transition to graduate school. Many of the NCU graduates and their families along with DMFS faculty were involved in the filming. We are all excited to see the products that will come from that effort.
