UPDATES Mary Dereshiwsky, PhD Dr. Dereshiwsky has authored the following two chapters in the book Enhancing Education through Open Degree Programs and Prior Learning Assessment: o Fostering effective learning community in the online classroom (p. 203-219) o Resilience and its importance to online students (p. 252-266) She also gave the following presentations: o "Analyzing Student Success in Hybrid Anatomy and Physiology Courses. Navigating the Digital Landscape and Social Media Use by Arizona K-12 Public Unified School Superintendents. Navigating the Digital Landscape." Presented at the TCC Online Conference in April, 2018 (with several associates). o "Are There Differences in Longevity among Arizona Urban, Suburban and Rural Superintendents?" Presented at the ICPEL Annual Conference, along with five colleagues. Phase 1 Thorough review of relevant literature to determine results of prior studies (positive, negative or inconclusive), design alternatives, outcome measurements, other correlates or features of research or participants, and quality of research reports. Phase 2 Focus group interviews with priority population to determine appealing and less appealing elements of parklands, level of support desired to engage with outdoor park environments (led groups, led groups available sometimes, etc.), weather-related issues, transportation-related issues, work/other availability issues. Phase 3 A pilot intervention project to determine differences in outcomes (adherence, stress, mood, etc.) between two groups: urban walkers and park walkers. Phase 4 Search for and begin the process of applying for federal funding to expand the pilot into a larger-scale randomized controlled trial (RCT) type intervention. o Dr. Smock also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity. John Frame, PhD, ThM, MDiv, MPA Dr. Frame is a new Faculty member at NCU. He is currently conducting research on over 100 case studies related to the United Nations partnering with faith-based groups and non-government organizations (NGOs) in developing countries. In November, he will attend and present the results and a policy brief to the Strategic Learning Exchange on Faith and Development, coordinated by the United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force on Religion and Development.
