16 Darren Adamson, PhD | Chair, Dept. of Marriage and Family Sciences Greetings Colleagues! As always, our work continues to change and impact lives around the globe. As I have had the dual focus of DMFS and the Graduate School over the last few months, I have been prompted to reflect on my experience working at NCU. My vantage point has broadened as has my gratitude for the opportunity to work in such a wonderful organization. We are impacting students and, by extension their clients, through our work in preparing MFTs to work as clinicians and as scholar practitioners. The Graduate School makes a difference in the lives of those who did not succeed in their doctoral degree pursuits and we have designed a pathway for them to succeed. I have felt renewed and deepened pride in who we are and what we do to make this world a better place. It is so sweet to be on this journey with all of you!! Here are some pertinent updates: 1. Argosy – we have supported roughly 130 students as they have made the transition to NCU. They have expressed gratitude for our willingness to assist them in making this transition and completing their degrees. Even those who have expressed frustration at having a later graduation date have expressed gratitude. Thanks to each one of you as faculty and staff for your commitment to supporting them through the change process. 2. We had the unique and very exciting opportunity to hire four new full time teaching faculty since the last newsletter. All of them were hired from our amazing adjunct faculty body. We thank all who expressed interest in the positions and who submitted videos and interviewed. It was a wonderful and challenging process to decide among such talented colleagues who would be hired for these positions. We congratulate the following new full-time faculty, all of whom began their full-time service in May: a. Judith Cannon – Judy has been and will continue to teach MAMFT Foundations courses and facilitate supervision groups. b. Elizabeth (Beth) D'Arrigo-Patrick – Beth has been primarily teaching research courses in our doctoral programs. She will continue to teach those courses as well as doctoral Foundations courses and has begun working as a dissertation chair. c. Lauren Fix – Lauren has been and will continue to teach MAMFT Foundations courses. She has recently added a supervision group as well. d. Craig Smith – Craig has been teaching primarily in the doctoral programs and facilitating supervision groups. He will continue in these areas and will add teaching doctoral research and serving as a dissertation chair. We warmly welcome these four faculty into their new roles and wish them continued success in supporting students as they pursue achievement of their educational goals. 3. Yulia is continuing to work with the ID folks to finalize the new version of MFT-5101. We sent the book that was authored by our MFT faculty to an external reviewer, who was very complimentary and provided some feedback that Emily and Amanda are now incorporating into the final version. We also now have MFT-5104 and MFT-5105 on the schedule in July for revision to include authored content. We should finally see some of the fruits of our labors soon!!
