3 The 2020 Faculty Senate Summit took place during the NCUSails event in January 2020. The Senate held two planning sessions to continue work on strategic issues raised by faculty. The Senate also had the opportunity to meet with NCU President David Harpool, Provost John LaNear, and Vice Provost Colin Marlaire. The main outcomes of the Summit included: • Reviewing and updating of Faculty Senate Bylaws. • Finalizing a decision tree formalizing the Faculty Issue Submission Process. • Discussion with Dr. Marlaire regarding technology needs, including University- issued hardware (Mac vs. PC), collaborative technology tools, and ongoing improvements to NCUOne. • Discussion with Drs. Harpool and LaNear about Senate priority areas, including affirming the role of the Faculty Senate to address the full spectrum of issues that affect NCU faculty at large and examining faculty workload as it relates to efforts to best serve students. • Exploring opportunities for increasing part-time faculty involvement at NCU Faculty Symposium, including recommendation for breakout sessions specifically for part-time faculty. • Planning the upcoming Faculty Assembly during Symposium in August 2020. The Senate continues to prioritize ways to increase our accessibility to faculty. We are proud to introduce the Faculty Issue Submission Process, which establishes a transparent process for responding to faculty concerns brought to the Senate. With this workflow, faculty will know the steps to follow to submit a private request or present issues for Senate consideration. Effective as of April 8, 2020, you can find the Faculty Senate meeting agendas and meeting minutes in the Faculty Senate space located in the CTL-Faculty Resource Area in The Commons. The 2020 Faculty Assembly has been rescheduled for Spring 2021 at Symposium. We would like to know what you, the faculty, would like to address during the Assembly. Please contact your Senate representative with your input. NEWS Faculty Senate Statement on our Social Climate: We, the Senate, recognize the gravity of this moment in our social climate. Know that your representatives in the Senate are sensitive to the needs of all faculty in the NCU Community. We are listening to you. Your voice is important. The Senate continues to work on your behalf to develop equitable solutions.
