6 JFK UNIVERSITY LAW STUDENTS AND FACULTY JOIN NCU IN JANUARY LISA S. HUTTON, JD DEAN, JOHN F. KENNEDY UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF LAW Like NCU, JFKU strives to meet students where they are, to provide an exceptional education in a convenient format. An accredited, online JD program opens up access to law school for students who cannot attend traditional programs because of location, cost, or time. Access to law school, and thereby access to justice, is an important mission of the JFK College of Law — a mission it will continue as the John F. Kennedy School of Law at NCU. Alignment of JFKU's and NCU's mission and values is a primary reason the college is pleased to be joining NCU. As you may know, JFKU is closing its doors at the end of the year. As of January 1, the JFK School of Law will be administratively relocated to NCU. Programs in the new John F. Kennedy School of Law at NCU will include the Bachelor of Legal Studies, paralegal certificate program, the Juris Doctor (California licensure) program and other law related NCU programs. The bachelor's degree in legal studies and paralegal certificate programs are both approved by the American Bar Association. The Juris Doctor program is accredited by the State Bar of California, allowing graduates to sit for the California Bar examination. All three programs focus on the practical application of the substantive law, providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become effective, ethical, and competent legal practitioners. The JFK School of Law will offer both clinical and internship opportunities for students to gain real-world experience in the practice of law, while simultaneously serving their communities. The school's faculty come with years of collective experience in legal practice and legal education. We are excited to become part of the NCU team and to grow and strengthen the JFK School of Law programs. NCU HAPPENINGS | SUMMER 2020
