10 In early September, Northcentral University received the Delphi Award, which is awarded by the Pullias Center for Higher Education at the University of Southern California and the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). Their work is supported by The Teagle Foundation. The purpose of the Delphi Award is to recognize "exemplary campus practices, policies, and programs or services that enable faculty (especially adjunct, contingent, and non- tenure track) to nurture student success." The award is accompanied by a $15,000 grant to support on-going implementation of practices and policies that support part-time faculty to nurture student achievement. As you know, NCU's model relies on a combination of full-time and part-time faculty who employ NCU's Teaching Through Engagement pedagogical model. Together, part- time and full-time faculty provide students with a powerful combination of practical and theoretical course room experiences. NCU received the award based on work that was initiated by the Life of the Adjunct Task Force, which began in 2016. This task force was created so part-time faculty and institutional leadership could evaluate and recommend policy and practice changes for hiring and including part-time faculty in the NCU community. The overriding goal was to help ensure part-time faculty are supported in their efforts to positively impact student success. The task force's work has helped NCU define a model with three primary guiding principles for ensuring that NCU engages our part-time faculty: integration into the University community, preparation for their responsibilities as part-time faculty, and compensation for their work and University activities. We received the 2020 Delphi Award alongside Lousiana State University. Previous winners include Penn State University, Santa Monica College, Harper College, and California State University, Dominguez Hills. The award will be formally received at the 2021 AAC&U Annual Meeting, held January 20-23 in Seattle, Washington (or virtually, dependent on circumstances).
