As faculty, we spend the majority of our time each week focused on supporting our students to be successful in their coursework. We also wonder what happens for our students once they graduate. What are our alumni doing with their education? Tracking alumni outcomes and achievements is an important part of the assessment we do in SSBS, and at NCU. Not only are the outcomes important to our programmatic and regional accreditors, but this information can be used to shape our curriculum and practices. Below I will highlight some unique alumni outcomes for each department. Marriage and Family Sciences Each year, NCU deploys a survey to all graduates. The version of this survey that goes to MFS graduates includes questions used to obtain information that we track in a database, and provide to our programmatic accreditor COAMFTE (Commission on Accreditation in Marriage and Family Therapy Education). Each year, the program directors provide annual reports to COAMFTE indicating the proportion of alumni who report taking the national licensing exam, becoming licensed as an MFT, and joining AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy). Elaine Willerton, PhD | Assessment Director, SSBS Below are some highlights of responses to the 2016 NCU Alumni survey from MAMFT graduates. Thirty-three MAMFT alumni responded to the survey. • The majority of respondents already had a job lined up upon graduating or obtained one within six months. • Respondents working in the field of MFT most often indicated they worked in a private practice or community agency, followed by a human services organization or a hospital. • 84% of respondents said their training had prepared them to work with diverse populations. • 95% of respondents said that the program prepared them to work as an MFT • Three graduates indicated that they were pursuing a PhD ASSESSING STUDENT LEARNING
